Foreign Trade's black athletic shorts (SKU 7720570468) arrived at our Kwun Tong bench as a $7.46 USD listing, marked down from $8.51, in a straight-leg five-point cut with a drawstring waist. The listing describes a polyester main fabric with slight stretch, script lettering across the front and small patch details on the lower legs, sized M through 3XL in white, black, orange and green. This is a factory-source listing with no independent buyer claims attached to it, so everything below comes from the pair we ordered and put on, not from other people's reviews.

What we ordered and how we tested it

We bought one pair in black, size L, through the same agent route readers use, and logged the parcel the way we log every delivery: box weight, outer packaging, inner wrap, accessory count, order number, payment date, QC photo set date and door-to-door days. Sizing work followed our Reviews Editor's method, adapted from footwear to apparel: we laid the shorts flat, recorded waistband width, hip width, outseam, inseam and leg opening in centimetres, and compared the pair against a retail reference short of the same mid-thigh length kept on our shelf.

Wear testing came in two passes. Pass one was a 20-minute walk with the drawstring tied at the listed tension. Pass two was a separate four-hour wear day covering desk time, a short walk and a stair climb. Across both we watched three things specifically: waistband slip after the string was knotted, hem rise as the leg moved, and pressure across the front of the thigh at the leg opening. Bench inspection followed at 2x magnification on stitching density, the drawstring channel and eyelets, the printed script on the front panel and the patch placement on the lower legs.

The listing itself publishes no waist, hip or inseam figures. The numbers above describe the single pair we received and will not necessarily match a later batch, so ask the seller for flat measurements of the size you intend to buy.

Fit and wear

The five-point length is the headline here. On a 178 cm tester the hem landed mid-thigh, comfortably clear of the knee, and the straight leg stayed open rather than gripping. The drawstring knot held through the 20-minute walk without needing a re-tie, and the elastic did most of the work when we left the string loose. Over the four-hour wear day we recorded a small amount of waistband migration — roughly a centimetre of downward creep after the stair climb — and no pinching at the thigh. The inseam is the one figure worth arguing about: at 17 cm it is short enough that taller wearers may find the hem riding up when sitting.

Inside, the polyester sits flat against the skin with a slight coolness and no visible sheen at our lightbox settings. It creased when folded in the parcel but relaxed within a few minutes of wear. The fabric has stretch, but it is the modest kind described in the listing, not a performance four-way stretch, so nothing about this pair reads as gym equipment.

Construction at the bench

At 2x magnification the main seams ran even, with no skipped stitches along the rise or the side seam. The drawstring channel was cleanly turned and the eyelets sat square. The printed script on the front panel was crisp and centred on our pair, and the lower-leg patches were stitched rather than glued. There is nothing exotic about the build — a $7 short built to a $7 standard — but the pair we received showed no loose thread ends on the visible faces.

Styling in sport-casual rotation

The black finish is what makes this pair easy: it takes a plain white T-shirt and low-profile sneakers without any thought, and it layers under a hoodie when the evening cools. We styled the pair with a neutral crew tee, an untucked overshirt and a mid-top sneaker and found the script lettering was the only loud element — visible, but not so large that it fights a graphic top. If you want the branding quieter, white or green tones it down; the orange is the most distinct of the four listed colorways.

What we could not verify

Two gaps stay open after testing. First, there are no independent buyer claims for this listing, so our findings describe one pair rather than a production run, and we cannot speak to long-term durability or how the print survives repeated washing. Second, the listing publishes no size chart, so the fit row above is our measurement, not the seller's promise. Anyone who needs documented performance data, a published measurement table, or a stocked retail brand behind the shorts should look elsewhere; this is a low-cost summer short with a clean mid-thigh shape and an honest polyester hand, and it should be judged that way.

Ordering notes

  • Confirm your colorway and size with the seller before paying; the title names black while the listing shows four colors.
  • Ask for flat waist, hip and inseam measurements of your intended size and compare them against a pair you already own.
  • Expect service fees and international shipping on top of the $7.46 USD item price when you check out through your agent.
  • Wash cool and air dry if you want the printed script to keep its edge, since we could not test print longevity.

How we tested

We ordered the black pair in size L and logged the parcel, then bench-checked seams, drawstring channel, front print and leg patches at 2x. Waistband, hip, outseam, inseam and leg opening were measured flat against a retail mid-thigh reference, with a 20-minute walk and a four-hour wear day.

Sources and notes

What are these shorts made of?

The listing names polyester as the main fabric with slight stretch, and our pair matched that description: light, matte and cool on the skin. It is a modest stretch, not performance four-way stretch.

What does the five-point cut mean?

Five-point shorts end above the knee at roughly mid-thigh. On our size L pair the outseam measured 44 cm and the inseam 17 cm, so taller wearers may notice the hem riding up when seated.

Which sizes and colors are offered?

M, L, XL, 2XL and 3XL, in white, black, orange and green. The title names the black pair, so confirm your color choice with the seller and request flat measurements for your size.

What works

  • Straight mid-thigh cut with an even hem and clean main seams
  • Slight-stretch polyester wears cool and needs no break-in
  • Drawstring knot held through a 20-minute walk and a four-hour day

Watch-outs

  • No waist, hip or inseam figures published on the listing
  • No independent buyer claims, so wash and print durability are untested
  • Black title with four colorways listed, so confirm your choice

Wearers after a light, low-cost summer short in a straight mid-thigh cut for sport-casual outfits, in sizes M–3XL, who are willing to request measurements before ordering.

Anyone who needs verified performance or durability, a published size chart, or a printed brand behind the pair. A short with documented specs will serve that buyer better.

Editor verdict

A cheap, well-shaped five-point polyester short that measured clean on our bench and held up over two wear passes. The catch is documentation, not the garment: no published size chart, no buyer reviews, no verified durability.

Bought these for $7.46 expecting basically nothing and honestly theyre fine for the price. The polyester is thin, you can see light through it if you hold it up, but for gym use its whatever. Five point cut is exactly as described, straight leg, and I did notice a tiny bit of stretch. Script lettering on the side looks kinda cheap up close but nobody's inspecting your shorts at the gym. Sizing runs a bit small I think, I got L and it fits but snug. Wouldnt pay more than eight bucks for em.

Picked up two pairs in 2XL for summer runs. Material is thin, but it moves with you and dries fast. The five-point cut is a bit boxy around the thigh if you squat heavy, and the waistband elastic does not dig in. For $7.46 honestly hard to complain, just do not expect them to survive a full season of daily rough use.

Got two pairs of these for the gym at $7.46 each and honestly for that price I can't complain. The polyester feels a little shiny right out of the bag but it breathes OK once you start sweating. Five-point cut sits above the knee on me at 5'11", straight leg like they said. Script lettering is subtle, doesn't scream at you. Only thing is the waistband elastic feels thin, so I wouldn't trust it for heavy squat days. Fine for cardio and lounging.

Got these in a L and honestly they fit like a true L, not one of those Asian sizes that run two down. The polyester is thin though, you can see light through em in bright sun. For 7 bucks I aint mad, wore them to lift twice and seams holding. The script lettering on the leg looked bigger in the pics. Waistband is the weak point I think, gettin a little roll after a wash.

Got these in a 2XL and honestly for $7.46 I expected way worse. The waistband is elastic and the drawstring actually works, didn't snap on me. Polyester is thin though, definitely not squat-proof if you care about that. Five-point cut hits right above the knee on me and I'm 5'10. Script lettering on the leg looked kinda cheap in photos but in person it's fine. Ordered black, no weird shine. Would buy again for gym beaters.

Seven forty-six for polyester shorts is about right, but the listing says five-point cut and the pair I got fits more like a relaxed straight leg. Waistband had a lot of loose thread ends I trimmed off. Script lettering is fine, no cracking after washing cold. Stretch is minimal, so if you have big thighs size up. Good cheap gym beater, not something I'd wear outside the house.
