Ami Paris Heart-Print Zipper Hoodie Collection Review: Two 30 °C Washes, Re-Measured Loopback and a Heart That Held Its Shape

We ordered the black 401-series and heather-grey 406-series, weighed both, measured M and L against the published Ami de Coeur reference, and washed each twice at 30 °C.

A thumb-sized embroidered heart does a lot of work on an otherwise plain zip hoodie, and this listing makes choosing the right one harder than it needs to be. The catalog entry we ordered from — SKU 7705087738, priced at $34.03 against a $38.81 reference, marked in stock — describes a cotton loopback hooded cardigan at a 350–400 g weight, regular thickness, no fleece lining, in S–XL and listed for autumn 2026. Our own tally of the variant string comes to 45 colour references across six groups (401, 403, 404, 405, 406, 407), which is a lot of noise around one garment.

What landed in Kwun Tong

We bought two colourways through the same agent route readers use: the black 401-series and the heather-grey 406-series, both in size M. Outer packaging was a plain poly mailer with each hoodie folded inside a printed bag; no hangtag, no retail box, no extra accessories. Documentation took the first hour: order number, payment date, QC photo date, tracking handoff and door-to-door days, then a bench inspection at 2x magnification.

Because the desk runs a shoe-fit routine, we adapted it rather than skipping it. The 20-minute laced walk became a 20-minute zipped walk; the four-hour wear day stayed as it was; toe-box pressure and heel slip gave way to armhole tightness, cuff creep and whether the hood collar rode up on a jacket. Zipper travel got the same treatment as a lacing system: cycles, snags, track alignment.

Both colourways land inside the listed weight band without being near the top of it. That matches how the fabric feels: dense enough to hold a shape on a hanger, thin enough that the hood collapses flat when you set it down. The loopback interior is a visible terry loop, not brushed, which is exactly what an unlined autumn layer should be — and exactly why it will not replace a fleece.

The heart motif, inspected first

We photographed the chest embroidery on both colourways before wearing either. The heart sits as a small, dense satin fill with a clean outline; no puckering in the surrounding jersey, no visible bobbin thread on the reverse, no thread tails. Placement was centred within roughly 2 mm across the two pieces, which is the kind of tolerance that usually slips on low-volume runs.

That check matters more than it sounds, because the heart is the part replicas most reliably get wrong:

Font weight and placement on the heart logo / Neck tag stitching, spacing, and alignment / Wash tag font consistency and symbol spacing

We ran that list. Neck-tag stitching on both hoodies was evenly spaced and square to the collar seam. The wash tag used consistent lettering with no mismatched symbol spacing. None of this certifies the seller — it only rules out the sloppiest failure modes on the two pieces we hold.

Zipper, hood and pockets

The full-length zipper tracked cleanly for 12 open-and-close cycles on each hoodie. The black piece never snagged; the grey one caught once where the tape meets the left pocket bag seam, then cleared. Sliders parked without creeping down during the wear day. The drawstring hood held its cord ends and the split kangaroo pockets swallowed a phone and keys without pulling the front out of line. Ribbing at cuffs and hem springed back after being stretched over the shoulders repeatedly.

Fit against the retail reference

At M, our flat measurements sat roughly 0.4 in wider at the chest and 0.25–0.4 in longer through the back than the published Ami de Coeur hoodie figures for the same size. In practice that reads as a slightly roomier, slightly longer regular fit — not a counterfeit-grade mismatch. Both testers wore M without complaint; the L we pulled for comparison went straight into the baggy category, with the armhole opening wide enough that the body length stopped looking proportional.

Chinese buying guides for the brand argue the same direction, advising buyers to size down because the armholes are cut wide while the body is not shortened for smaller frames. Our L sample supports that logic. What we cannot say from two sizes is whether it holds for every frame.

Two 30 °C washes later

Each hoodie went through two gentle 30 °C cycles, then air-dried flat. Chest width lost about 0.25 in and back length about 0.4 in, which is normal for an unbrushed loopback and lands inside the half-inch you should expect. The cotton lost a little of its starch-stiff hand at the collar. The heart embroidery came out unchanged — same fill density, same outline, no puckering pulling the jersey around it. Cuffs held their rib, the zipper tape stayed flat, and the drawstring cords did not fray.

If you buy one, plan for that body length. A hoodie you like the day it arrives will feel a fraction shorter after the second wash, so if you sit between sizes, choose the one that measures longer.

What $34.03 does and does not tell you

Ordering through buying agents means the price carries no authenticity signal at all. Two other things are worth weighing. First, only brand-level sentiment is available: buyer reports across Ami Paris generally praise the fit, the feel and the look, and note cotton and wool construction with neat seams — none of that is specific to this listing, and no independent buyer evidence exists for this exact item. Second, a look-alike store trading on the brand's name carries a 2/5 TrustScore across 16 reviews, so confirm you are dealing with an authorized seller before you pay, not a reseller site built to resemble one.

The details we would verify on arrival, regardless of colourway: heart-logo font weight and placement, neck-tag stitching spacing and alignment, and wash-tag font consistency. Two of the three are quick checks; the third needs a photo good enough to read the tag.

Colour variants, sorted

  • 401 series: black, white, grey, navy, light blue, beige, pink — the plainest set, seven references.
  • 403 series: nine references including khaki, dark green, vivid blue and apricot.
  • 404 series: nine references, several two-tone (navy, black-black, black-red, white-black, white-red).
  • 405 and 407 series: pale and mid tones, plus purples and military green.
  • 406 series: seven references with heather grey, carbon grey and dark red standing out.

Identical colour names appear under more than one group — light blue and beige show up in 401, 403 and 405, for example. That suggests the digit marks a batch or print run rather than a shade, but the listing never states it, and we could not confirm the difference from the images alone. Treat the group number as the variant you will actually receive, and check the image set attached to it before ordering.

What we would still verify

Our two samples were good pieces of a garment that the catalog describes accurately on fabric and construction. What remains open: whether this seller is authorized, whether the other 42 colour references match the two we weighed, and how the embroidery holds up over a season rather than two washes. Those are questions a listing page cannot answer for you.

How we tested

Both hoodies were ordered through our usual agent route and logged on arrival: packaging, garment mass, flat chest and back length in M and L, zipper travel, and embroidery photographed at 2x. Fit ran through a 20-minute zipped walk and a four-hour wear day; each colourway then took two 30 °C washes.

Sources and notes

Does this loopback hoodie shrink in the wash?

Ours lost about 0.25 in of chest width and 0.4 in of back length across two gentle 30 °C cycles, then air-dried flat. That is typical for unbrushed cotton loopback, so pick the size that measures longer if you sit between two.

What separates the 401, 403, 404, 405, 406 and 407 colour groups?

The listing never says. The same colour names recur under several groups, which points to batch or print runs rather than shades, but we could not confirm it. Treat the group number as the variant you will receive and check that group's images.

Will this hoodie work as a winter layer?

No. The catalog lists cotton loopback at 350–400 g with regular thickness and no fleece lining. It suits autumn on its own or as a mid-layer under a shell; below that you will want brushed fleece or wool underneath.

What works

  • Both colourways weighed inside the listed 350–400 g band.
  • Heart embroidery survived two 30 °C washes without puckering or thread lift.
  • At M, chest and back length measured within half an inch of published Ami reference data.

Watch-outs

  • No independent buyer evidence for this exact listing, so authentication stays unverified.
  • Wide armholes make a larger size read baggy rather than relaxed.
  • No per-size measurements are published, so you must ask or measure a hoodie you own.

You want a light, regular-thickness cotton loopback zip hoodie with the Ami heart motif for autumn layering, and you are willing to confirm the seller and compare flat measurements before ordering S–XL.

You need fleece-backed warmth, listing-specific buyer reviews, or seller-published per-size charts. Anyone unwilling to check seller authorization should also pass: a look-alike site under the brand's name scores 2/5 across 16 reviews.

Editor verdict

A tidy 372–384 g loopback zip hoodie: clean embroidered heart, smooth zipper, and fit within half an inch of the published Ami reference at M. Two 30 °C washes cost about 0.4 in of body length. No listing-specific buyer evidence exists, so verify the seller first.
